Paris Saint-Germain decided to get rid of players who were taking up space on the payroll this summer. They have done a good part of the work, and today they concluded the departure of Julian Draxler.
The German arrived at Prince Park in January 2017 for 36,000,000 from German side Wolfsburg, but never lived up to the money invested.
He played 131 games in the French league where he scored 17 goals with 24 assists, which is not such a bad performance, but the fact is that no coach (Emery, Tuchel, Pochettino, Galtier, Enrique) saw him in the foreground.
Last season, Draxler ended up on loan at Benfica, where he also had some brilliant moments. However, not enough for the Portuguese giant to buy him.
He offered the 29-year-old to PSG everywhere and nobody wanted him. In the end, they decided to play financial fair play again and take it to Qatar.
As the owners of PSG are also from the local royal family, it is clear that the transfer was set at 20,000,000 euros only so that the champion of France could dispose of additional money.
After all, a similar maneuver was already carried out this summer in the case of Abdou Diallo (15,000,000 euros) and Marco Verratti (45,000,000 euros) who also went to Qatar.
The fact is that for Draxler, whose market value (according to the reputable Transfermarkt) is 6,000,000 euros, no one was ready to pay even half of that money, and only Al Ahli came forward with a huge sum.
Certainly, the player himself will not be harmed since his annual salary will be in the range of the 7,000,000 euros that PSG was giving him or something slightly above.
Who knows, as he is only 29 years old, maybe Draxler will play in the Qatar league and return to Europe again. It’s really not material for PSG…
