The selectors of Poland and Argentina, Czeslaw Michniewicz and Lionel Scaloni assessed that the duel between those national teams at the World Cup in Qatar will not be just a duel between footballers Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi and that the two should not be compared.
– Lionel Messi is a fantastic player, just like Robert. But this is not tennis, it is not one-on-one. Robert needs his teammates, and so does Leo. You can count on those goal scorers, but you can’t win individually – Michniewicz told reporters.
On Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., Polish players will meet Argentina in the third round of Group C, in which all four national teams have a chance to advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
Michniewicz pointed out that it is important that the team did not concede goals in the previous two matches, against Mexico (0:0) and Saudi Arabia (2:0), but that they will have to be ready against Argentina if that happens.
– We must not panic or be nervous. Argentina has excellent individuals, they are a great football country. They had their ups and downs, but also unforgettable moments at the world championships – he said.
The coach of Poland pointed out that he is happy that they are playing against Argentina, stressing that no one should be stressed or under pressure because of this.
– They should be happy because such opportunities are rare. We will do everything to win because we can. We are the first in the group and we are very happy about that – Michniewicz pointed out.
Argentina national football team coach Lionel Scaloni said that Lewandowski is a good player and that it is a pleasure and a privilege to see him play up close.
– There is no reason to compare him with Messi, let’s enjoy the game of both together. Comparisons are superfluous – emphasized Scaloni.
He stated that every match is important for the Argentine national team, as was the match against Mexico in the previous round, in which they won 2:0, adding that such victories help them and show that they are on the right path.
– At the moment, two or three national teams have secured further placement. Everyone else is still playing for their place (in the round of 16). This is a difficult group and we knew it could happen – said Scaloni.
Group C matches will be played on Wednesday at 20:00, and after two rounds, Poland has four points, Argentina and Saudi Arabia have three points each, and the Mexican national team has one point.
