The Argentinian footballer, Lionel Messi, in last night’s convincing triumph over Maccabi Haifa, in the group stage of the Champions League, with a score of 7:2, scored 2 goals and broke another record.
In last night’s game in Paris, the Argentine broke the record of the current player of Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo, when it comes to goals outside the penalty area in the Champions League.
His second goal of the match was from outside the opponent’s penalty area, which was his 23rd goal overall in the most elite European club competition, outside the 16-meter line, thus surpassing Ronaldo, who was the best so far with his 22nd goal.
Given that Ronaldo is not playing in the Champions League, Messi might be able to break another of Cristiano’s records already this season.
Namely, the Portuguese is the best scorer in the history of the Champions League with 140 goals, while Messi has 129. Depending on the results of the French club, the Argentine could very soon be in possession of that record as well.
