Argentina’s national football team qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as they played a draw against Brazil 0: 0 at home in San Juan.
Much has been written about this match, but they didn’t live up to expectations. Chile also made it easier for Argentina, which lost at home to Ecuador with 0: 2.
In San Juan, the teams didn’t create many chances, Brazil had the best in the 60th minute when Fred hit the crossbar, and Argentina in the end when Lionel Messi’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Alison.
And that was more or less everything. But, it was known from the beginning that this match was insignificant for Brazil, which was evident on the field.
Both teams have one game less, after their duel in September in Brazil, the game was interrupted after seven minutes due to the violation of the anty-covid rules of the Argentine football players.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has not yet decided how to register the match.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni is satisfied with the team’s results.
– This year has been magnificent. We won 2021 Copa America, we qualified for the World Cup and we have a long undefeated streak. To place so early, in such difficult qualifications, is something we should be proud of – said Scaloni.
Since Argentina’s defeat against Brazil in the semifinals of the American Cup in 2019, the Argentine team has a streak of 17 wins and 10 draws.
Let us remind you, the first four teams from the South American qualifications will be placed directly at the World Cup in Qatar, and the fifth-placed teams will play in the intercontinental playoff.
Ecuador is third on the table with 23 points, and Colombia and Peru have 17. Chile and Uruguay have 16 points each, Bolivia 15, Paraguay 13, and the last-placed Venezuela seven points.
