The Malta FA Trophy will have a new brand name sponsor as the Malta FA has signed a two year sponsorship deal with local based company Meridian Gaming Ltd. The new name of the competition will be The Meridianbet FA Trophy. The announcement follows the signing of the agreement between MFA President Mr Bjorn Vassallo and Mr Stefan Pavlovic, Director of Meridian Gaming Ltd.
At the signing of the agreement, Mr Pavlovic, expressed his enthusiasm stating, “We are thrilled to partner with the Malta Football Association as the title sponsor of the Maltese FA Trophy. With our 17 year presence in Malta, we have consistently strived to give back to the community. This sponsorship not only supports the growth of football at all levels but also reinforces our ongoing initiatives”.
From his behalf Mr Vassallo, President of the Malta FA said that the Association is committed to growing and improving the game of football at all levels. “Our partnership with Meridianbet, a company with a deep-rooted presence in Malta, for the sponsorship of the FA Trophy, is an ideal fit as the Association, through its domestic competitions continues to attract a sporting culture whilst creating community engagement through football”.
Mr Vassallo added “Together, we aim to foster positive social change and champion national pride and the FA Trophy honour at the end of every football season is exactly a reflection of all this.”
Meridian Gaming Ltd is not a newcomer in supporting the local sporting community and nonetheless local football Clubs. Through its ‘meridianbet’ brand the company has supported local clubs like Zabbar SP, Valletta FC and Hamrun Spartans FC.
About the FA Trophy: The FA Trophy, is an annual football Knockout prestigious competition which has been played in Malta since 1933. The Trophy competition had kicked off following a match between England and Italy played in Rome 1933. During this match a number of pro-British Maltese supporters travelled to support the English side. At that time The Football Association had donated a silver trophy to be played on the model of the FA Cup as a sign of recognition and appreciation.
The FA Trophy always generates great interest amongst the local football community and the team who wins the cup usually wins a place in the First qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. In the last decade The FA Trophy’s competition format is played on a knock-out basis between all the senior clubs in Malta and also involves the amateur Clubs from the sister island Gozo.
