In a thrilling encounter against Real Sociedad, Paris Saint-Germain secured their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory, courtesy of two goals from Kylian Mbappe.
With his future at the club uncertain, Mbappe expressed his satisfaction with the team’s achievement after the match.
“We are very happy. This was our goal. We wanted to advance to the quarterfinals, but also to achieve another victory. Our plan was clear and we managed to score a goal in the initial phase. We weren’t under a lot of pressure, just a bit towards the end of the game,” Mbappe remarked.
His quick-fire brace paved the way for PSG’s progression, with the home side only managing to narrow the deficit with a late goal from Merino.
“We knew right away that we couldn’t sleep. If they had taken the lead, they could have pressed us with the help of the fans. We had to destroy their hopes in the early stages of the match. We did that and we are very satisfied,” Mbappe added.
PSG president Nasser Al-Kelaifi echoed Mbappe’s sentiments, expressing pride in the team’s collective effort.
“We are proud, we are building something for the future. We saw a team that plays together, that’s what we want,” said the Qatari businessman.
