Argentine football player Maxi Rodriguez decided to end his professional playing career at the age of 41.
He announced this decision in a video message that reads “I have something to tell you”.
He thanked those closest to him and added that such a decision is never easy.
“The moment has come that I thought would never come. We footballers never want it to happen. It was a very difficult decision, but at the same time I made it quite calm. Those were the long years of my career in which I gave myself to the end. “I am completely empty and I have nothing more to give,” said Rodriguez.
Maxi Rodriguezbegan his professional career in 1999 at the Newell’s Old Boys, after which he moved to Espanyol, where he remained until 2005.
Certainly, he left the deepest mark in Atletico Madrid, where he spent the next five years and was the captain of the team after the departure of Fernando Torres to Liverpool.
He soon went the same way himself, and the fans of the team from Merseyside will always remember him first for the hat-trick against Fulham. After completing his two-year term in England, he returned to Newells, five years later to Penarol, and ended his career in Newells.
