Javier Mascherano, the former Argentina national team player, has come out in defense of Lionel Messi after the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star was suspended for two weeks due to a trip to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission.
Mascherano believes that PSG is failing to appreciate what kind of player they have in their team and are instead constantly criticizing him.
“It’s a shame that they don’t realize what kind of player they have in the team. 10 years ago, no one in Paris could have dreamed that Messi would one day play for them. Instead of enjoying it and supporting him, they constantly criticize him,” said Mascherano, who was teammates with Messi for eight years at Barcelona.
“In 10 years they will certainly regret everything they do to Messi. Any team in the world would give anything to have him in their team for at least five minutes. You can criticize him for some things, but to tell him that he is not acting like a professional is unbelievable. How can you tell the best player of all time that he’s not a professional and doesn’t act like one?! Unreal,” he continued.
Mascherano believes that PSG’s treatment of Messi will lead to his departure from the club. “Everyone condemned him for what he did, and the club couldn’t wait to suspend him, and they didn’t even ask him how it happened. He should go with his family where he will be happy,” said the Argentine.
As one of the greatest footballers of all time, Messi’s future at PSG has been the subject of much speculation. His suspension has added fuel to the fire, and many are now wondering if he will leave the club at the end of the season.
