Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been dealt a blow as he has been ruled out of Saturday’s FA Cup final against local rivals Manchester City.
Martial suffered a hamstring injury in the closing stages of United’s 2-1 victory over Fulham in their final Premier League game of the season.
The club’s official website confirmed that the Frenchman will not be available for the highly anticipated showpiece event over the weekend. This setback adds to the frustration for the 27-year-old, who has already missed a significant portion of the 2023 season and was absent for Manchester United’s EFL Cup final triumph over Newcastle United in February.
Since his return from a previous muscular injury, Martial has struggled to regain consistent playing time. He has started just eight matches and made seven substitute appearances. Unfortunately, his most recent injury occurred after coming on as a substitute in the 67th minute against Fulham.
Martial’s absence from the FA Cup final means he will fall short of reaching double figures in goals for the third consecutive season. The forward currently has nine goals in all competitions this campaign.
It is a disappointing turn of events for Martial, who had hopes of contributing to Manchester United‘s quest for silverware. The club will now have to rely on other attacking options to make an impact in the crucial final against their city rivals.
