When someone spends as much as 300 million euros and produces no results, it is only natural for them to be fired, which is exactly what Everton did.
Namely, since the arrival of Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri, Everton has invested a lot of money in reinforcements.
Of course, for something like that, a sports director who knows his job was also necessary. The club from Liverpool bet on Marcel Brands and missed badly.
Not only is the point that the German did a really disastrous job, but that Everton not only did not progress but also went backwards.
Since Brands stayed at the club, the “caramels” finished the season in the Premier League in 12th and 10th place in the table. This season they are even worse, as they are currently in 15th place!
So, Everton is closer to the fight for survival than to Europe, which was the ambition of the club years ago. Hence the sounding names on the bench, like Ancelotti and now Rafa Benitez.
But, as Brands poured as much as 300,000,000 euros into reinforcements that were not reinforcements, it could hardly have been better.
The purchases of Alex Iwobi (30,400,000), Moise Kean (27,500,000), Andre Gomes (25,000,000), Jean-Philippe Gbamin (25,000,000), Ben Godfrey (27,500,000) and others turned out to be severe failures.
When it is added that the club earned very little from the sale of football players, it is clear why Brands had to leave.
Because of his moves in the past, Everton could spend very little money this summer, so Benitez only asked for Demarai Gray, who arrived from Bayer for 2,000,000 euros.
There is something to the Spanish coach, who certainly has a better team than the current 15th place in the table. But more about that on another occasion.
This one deserves fierce criticism for the (non) work of Brands…
