Italian coach Roberto Mancini, after his team’s defeat by Spain in the semi-finals of the League of Nations, said that the “Fury” was better in this match and deservedly qualified for the final.
Spain defeated Italy with a score of 2:1 and thus secured a place in the final, where they will be awaited by Croatia, which in the second semi-final was better than the hosts of the final tournament, the Netherlands.
The decisive goal in this match was scored by Joselu in the 88th minute.
“Spain scored a goal in the very end, but overall they played better than us. We prepared a different strategy, we didn’t manage to implement much of what we planned,” said Mancini.
The scorer of the only goal for Azure was Ciro Immobile, but the Lazio striker was replaced in the 60th minute, and Chiesa, who is not a typical striker, came in his place.
“We thought that with Chiesa we would win in depth. The boys did their best and there are things we should regret, probably because we didn’t stay true to the style we normally push”, concluded Mancini.
The League of Nations final is scheduled for Sunday at 8:45 p.m., while Italy and the Netherlands will fight for third place at 3:00 p.m.
