Zach Scerri has completed his move to Birżebbuġa St Peter’s after signing a three-year contract with the newly promoted Premier League club.
The Maltese midfielder makes the switch from Floriana, where his playing time had become limited under head coach Daniel Portela.
Scerri, who joined Floriana after captaining Gżira United, was understood to be looking for a new challenge, with a number of Premier League clubs having shown interest in securing his services.
The 30-year-old defensive midfielder now becomes the latest experienced addition to Birżebbuġa St Peter’s as they prepare for their historic first season in the Maltese top flight.
His arrival is expected to add further strength and experience to Edgar Degabriele’s midfield, with Birżebbuġa continuing to strengthen their squad despite the coach indicating in his Matchday One pre-match press conference that the club’s transfer activity was nearing its conclusion.
Instead, the Premier League newcomers remain active in the market, with Scerri becoming another significant addition to a squad being built for top-flight football.
Birżebbuġa secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history last season and has been among the more active clubs during the summer transfer window.
