Marsaxlokk have announced the signing of Maltese-Argentinian midfielder Matías García, who returns to Malta after spending the summer back in Argentina.
García became a free agent after his contract with Ħamrun Spartans expired at the end of last season. The 30-year-old had returned to Argentina following his departure from the Spartans and, in comments to Malta Sport News, had admitted that he was unsure whether he would return to Malta for the new season.
That uncertainty has now been resolved, with García making his return to Maltese football after agreeing a move to Marsaxlokk.
Garcia spent the 2025/26 season with Ħamrun Spartans. He made a total of 31 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
García has also represented Malta at senior international level, earning two caps. Born in La Banda, Argentina, he holds both Maltese and Argentine citizenship.
His return represents an important addition for Marsaxlokk, who were among the least active clubs in the Premier League transfer market during the summer.
The Southseasiders began their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Balzan, and the arrival of García now gives the club further experience and versatility in midfield.
García previously won both the Maltese Premier League and the Maltese FA Trophy during his time with Floiriana.
