The Malta Premier has published the detailed programme for the opening phase of the 2026/27 campaign, with fixtures scheduled from Sunday 16 August through Sunday 20 September.
The season will begin at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, where Valletta face Żabbar St Patrick at 18:00 before Sliema Wanderers meet Hibernians at 20:30. The following evening, the Centenary Stadium hosts Birkirkara against Gżira United and Ħamrun Spartans against Mosta.
Early tests for title contenders
Champions Floriana enter the programme on Friday 21 August against Sliema, while Marsaxlokk take on Hibernians later that evening. A day later, Birkirkara meet Ħamrun and newly promoted Birżebbuġa St Peter’s face Żabbar St Patrick.
Several early fixtures should provide an immediate indication of how the leading sides are shaping up. Ħamrun host Floriana on 29 August, Sliema face Birkirkara on 6 September and Ħamrun meet Marsaxlokk on 18 September.
Valletta’s opening stretch also includes meetings with Gżira United, Marsaxlokk, Hibernians, Balzan and Birżebbuġa. The Citizens will be looking to build momentum after returning to the top flight and winning major silverware last season.
Promoted clubs handed demanding starts
Balzan return as Challenge League champions and begin their listed programme away to Mosta on 23 August. Birżebbuġa, whose historic promotion was sealed on penalties, will first appear against Żabbar before facing Sliema, Balzan, Ħamrun and Valletta during the published run.
The calendar uses four venues: the National Stadium, Tony Bezzina Stadium, Centenary Stadium and Victor Tedesco Stadium. Kick-off times are mainly set for 18:00 and 20:30, although two midweek fixtures on 2 September are both scheduled for 20:00.
The release gives clubs and supporters a clearer view of the opening weeks, although fixtures remain subject to changes arising from broadcasting, policing or European commitments.
