Maltese international winger Joseph Mbong has announced his departure from Ħamrun Spartans F.C. after six seasons with the club, describing the experience as being part of a family and thanking everyone involved in the club’s recent success.
In an emotional social media post published on Wednesday, Mbong reflected on what he described as “the last five and a half seasons”, during which Hamrun Spartans enjoyed one of the most successful periods in their modern history.
“Together we won, together we grew and together we wrote history,” Mbong said, as he thanked club officials, staff members, players and supporters for their trust and support throughout his time at the club.
The Malta national team player paid particular tribute to club officials including Elton Borg, Joseph Portelli, Marcel Bonnici and Eric Saliba, saying they had shared with him the vision behind the club’s ambitious project — one which he believes was achieved “and even exceeded”.
Mbong also expressed gratitude to club administrator and team Manager David Camilleri for his “tireless work”, while acknowledging the contribution of kit managers, medical staff, coaches, media personnel and everyone working behind the scenes at the Premier League club.
The 27-year-old described Hamrun Spartans as “my family for the last six years”, adding that although he had written “a big part” of his career with the club, “every good thing comes to an end”.
Mbong concluded his message by wishing the club continued success and progress in the years ahead.
During his spell with Hamrun Spartans F.C., Mbong established himself as one of Maltese football’s leading attacking players and played a key role in the club’s domestic achievements in recent seasons.
The writing was on the wall for Mbong as insiders told maltasport.mt that he was not eager to work again with coach Vincenzo Modica which he obviously fell short to mention in his social media post.
Club President Joseph Portelli had hinted that Mbong would leave the Club during last week’s AGM. Floriana FC the reigning Champions are amongst those who are reported to have already approached Mbong to secure his services but nothing as yet has materialized or made official. Marsaxlokk could also place an offer to the player in the coming days.
