Birkirkara have completed the signing of Serbian attacking midfielder Aleksandar Đjorđević as they continue building their squad for the 2026/27 Malta Premier season.
The 26-year-old arrives with experience in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Birkirkara confirmed the move through their official channels, describing the midfielder as a player who adds technical quality and versatility to their options.
Experience across the Serbian system
Đjorđević developed at Čukarički, one of the established clubs in Serbian football, before gaining senior experience through loan spells with IMT Belgrade, FK Inđija and Železničar Pančevo.
He later joined Železničar on a permanent basis and subsequently moved to FK Sarajevo. That career path has exposed him to different competitive environments in the Balkans and gives Birkirkara another experienced option between midfield and attack.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Đjorđević can operate in advanced central areas where his role will be to connect midfield with the forward line. His arrival adds competition in a part of the pitch where Birkirkara have already invested during the summer window.
His ability to work behind a central striker or move into other midfield positions could also give the coaching staff greater flexibility when changing shape during matches. The club have not yet indicated where they expect him to be used most frequently.
Stripes continue summer recruitment
The Serbian becomes the latest addition in an active period of recruitment for the Stripes. Birkirkara have already strengthened several areas of the squad, including the earlier arrival of Malta goalkeeper Rashed Al Tumi.
Further additions have included experienced defender Zach Muscat and midfield reinforcements as the club reshapes its group ahead of the new domestic campaign.
The summer changes suggest Birkirkara are seeking both experience and positional variety. Đjorđević adds another profile to that group, with his background in Serbian and Bosnian football complementing players already accustomed to the Malta Premier.
Đorđević’s background gives Birkirkara a player accustomed to technically demanding leagues and to competing for places at ambitious clubs. The next stage will be his integration into the squad and adaptation to Maltese football before the league programme begins.
Birkirkara have not disclosed the length or financial terms of the agreement. The signing nevertheless represents another clear step in the club’s effort to assemble a deeper and more flexible squad for the season ahead.
