Today at 16:00, at the Tony Bezzina Stadium sets the stage for one of Maltese football’s fiercest rivalries as Valletta and Ħamrun Spartans go head-to-head on Matchday 2 of the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round.
Both teams arrive on the back of victories in their opening matches of the round, adding extra spice to a clash that carries significant weight both on and off the pitch, with spectacular scenes expected from both sets of supporters.
Valletta are aiming to build early momentum in the Closing Round, with their head coach Thane Micallef underlining the importance of starting strongly in order to protect their league position. He explained that preparation has been thorough and that the players are determined to reward the supporters with a committed performance, while also relying on the crowd to provide an added boost in such a high-profile encounter.
The capital side will be close to full strength, with only Ciolacu unavailable due to a minor injury. Meanwhile, Diogo Tavares remains sidelined pending the outcome of his six-match ban appeal, which is scheduled to be heard today. Reflecting on the Opening Round, Micallef noted that every fixture can have a decisive influence on the final standings, particularly with the Closing Round format offering renewed belief to teams targeting a place in the Top 6.
