In an emotional farwell post on facebook Stefan Sultana had bid farwell to his beloved Club Ħamrun Spartans. In his post he said that after 44 years of service to Ħamrun S. as both a player and a coach, a significant chapter had come to an end. He said that the decision to step away was not an easy one, but circumstances in recent times have made it necessary.

He recounted on more than four decades at the club, where there have been countless memorable moments, alongside challenges that were part and parcel of any long footballing journey. He added ”Over the years, hundreds of young players came through the ranks, many of whom grew into adults and have since brought their own children to the club. The bonds formed with these players remain among the most cherished aspects of this remarkable career”
Sultana made a special appreciation thought to the many parents who entrusted their children to the club’s care. He explained that while disagreements were inevitable at times, a commitment to fairness, honesty, and mutual respect remained at the heart of every relationship throughout 26 years of coaching.
Tribute was also paid to the numerous coaches who worked alongside him over the years. Their professionalism and dedication were always respected, with an emphasis placed on allowing each coach the freedom to develop and express their own ideas. Whether offering advice, engaging in constructive discussions, or supporting colleagues as they pursued new opportunities, strong relationships were built that continue to this day.
No reflection on such a long association with Hamrun Spartans would be complete without acknowledging the club administrations that played a role throughout the years. Particular mention was made of the late Mario Debattista, who first encouraged the move into coaching while he was still an active player. Gratitude was also expressed to Victor Cassar, Noel Debattista, Antoine Attard, and Martin Bugeja, among many others, for their dedication and unwavering commitment to the club. Sultana added that these were individuals who stood by the club through difficult times as well as periods of success.
Heartfelt thanks were reserved for the supporters, whose loyalty, respect, and encouragement served as a constant source of motivation. The ex Malta International left a special word of gratitude to his family with a special mention for his wife, Lucienne and their daughters Erika and the late Greta.
Sultana concluded his post with these words; ”While one chapter closes, the future remains firmly rooted in football. The passion for the game remains as strong as ever, and new opportunities and challenges lie ahead. Football has always been more than a sport—it is a lifelong passion, one that continues to inspire the pursuit of growth, achievement, and success”
