Promising young goalkeeper Rashed Al-Tumi is considering a return to Sliema Wanderers following a disappointing spell with Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol, where he managed just four appearances in all competitions.
The 24-year-old, who holds Libyan and Maltese nationality, had moved to the Moldovan champions with high expectations but struggled to secure consistent playing time. Sources close to MaltaSport have confirmed that Al-Tumi is interested in rejoining Sliema ahead of the 2025–26 Maltese Premier League season.
Al-Tumi is highly regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers on the island. Despite his age, he has already earned several call-ups to the Maltese national team, underlining his potential and standing within local football circles. His previous performances with Sliema Wanderers were a key factor in his move abroad, and a return could provide the stability and competitive platform he needs to further his development.
Sliema, aiming to build on last season’s return to the Premier League, are believed to be in the market for a goalkeeper with top-level experience and local roots. Al-Tumi ticks both boxes, and discussions between the parties are said to be at an advanced stage.
A move back to the Blues would not only bolster Sliema’s defensive options but also give Al-Tumi the opportunity to regain match rhythm and reassert himself in the national team setup.
