Apart from his recent years with Sliema Wanderers, Turner was also heavily involved within the Malta Football Association youth setup until 2020, where he coached at the Under-17 level and participated in various UEFA youth competitions representing Malta on the international stage.

As a footballer, Turner enjoyed an outstanding career and remains one of the iconic figures associated with Sliema Wanderers. During his playing days, he won the prestigious Maltese Player of the Year award twice, in 1996 and again in 2003, underlining his consistency and quality across different generations.

On the international stage, Turner earned 61 caps for the Malta national football team and featured in 14 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, representing the country with distinction over several years.

His expected new appointment is viewed as an important move for a club aiming to build long-term sustainability through youth development rather than relying solely on external recruitment, with Turner’s experience in both elite football and player development considered a major asset for the project.
