Birzebbuga and Vittoriosa Maintain Lead in National Amateur League 1

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Vittoriosa Stars kept their one-point lead over third-placed San Gwann in the National Amateur League 1 Top 6, as all three teams secured victories on Sunday.

Vittoriosa edged past Xghajra Tornados with a late goal by Paul Odunayo Aderibigbe just two minutes from time at the Centenary Stadium. Meanwhile, Birzebbuga triumphed over Attard with a 2-1 win at the Sirens Stadium. Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, and Leejoe Schembri doubled their advantage five minutes later. Attard managed a late consolation goal through Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel, who converted a penalty in stoppage time.

San Gwann also secured a crucial victory, narrowly defeating Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Centenary Stadium with a decisive goal from Mattia Zarb.

As a result, Vittoriosa and Birzebbuga remain joint leaders with 43 points, closely followed by San Gwann with 42. Xghajra sit in fourth with 35 points, followed by Luqa (34) and Attard (29).

Pembroke Secure Crucial Win in Play-Out

In the Play-Out section, Pembroke Athleta earned a vital three points with a commanding 4-1 victory over Marsaskala at the Sirens Stadium. Jayden Fenech opened the scoring just before halftime, but Marsaskala responded three minutes into stoppage time with a goal from Kieran Grech. Pembroke regained control in the second half as Robert Ciantar restored the lead in the 62nd minute, before late strikes from Roderick Taliana (87’) and Jordan Vella (92’) sealed the win.

Qormi continue to lead the Play-Out standings with 35 points, followed by Qrendi (33), Mellieha (29), Zejtun (28), Kirkop (24), Marsaskala and Pembroke (19), Gharghur (16), Rabat (8), and Msida (5).
