The Malta Football Association (MFA) has announced that it is currently evaluating its options regarding the future management of its national teams. This comes as the MFA prepares for a new cycle with the introduction of its updated strategy, which includes technical projects aimed at enhancing the performance and structure of Maltese football.
The interim term of head coach Davide Mazzotta and his assistant Ernesto Javier Chevanton has officially come to an end following the conclusion of Malta’s November international fixtures. Appointed on 24 September, Mazzotta and Chevanton were tasked with leading the senior national team in the final two matches of this year’s UEFA Nations League campaign against Moldova and Andorra at Ta’ Qali.
During their short tenure, Malta remained unbeaten in these fixtures, which earned praise from the MFA. The association expressed its gratitude to Mazzotta and Chevanton for their dedication, professionalism, and the positive atmosphere they brought to the team. The MFA also extended its thanks to the technical staff and the fans for their support during this transitional period.
The MFA has stated that it will take its time to carefully assess the current situation, with no decision on the new management of the national teams expected before January 2025. Early next year, the association is set to unveil its new leadership plan for the future of the national team setup.
In evaluating potential candidates for the technical staff, the MFA has not ruled out retaining individuals currently involved with the team, highlighting the importance of continuity and experience within the system.
The forthcoming announcement is expected to set the stage for the next phase of Maltese football as the MFA focuses on long-term development and success for its national teams.
