Maltese international midfielder Matthew Guillaumier has officially joined Greek Super League side Panserraikos FC, signing a two-year contract with the club. The announcement was made by the club on 20 June through its official social media platforms, welcoming the 26-year-old to the “family of lions”.
Guillaumier, captain of the Malta national team, joins Panserraikos following a productive spell in Poland with Stal Mielec, where he made 67 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing five assists. Known for his composure on the ball and strong presence in midfield, Guillaumier brings both international experience and leadership qualities to his new club.
Born on 9 April 1998 in Sliema, Malta, Guillaumier began his professional career with St Andrews before going on to represent Birkirkara and Ħamrun Spartans in the Maltese Premier League. Across his domestic career in Malta, he featured in over 250 matches, netting 22 goals and delivering 20 assists. He also lifted two Maltese Premier League titles and was named Maltese Footballer of the Year on two occasions, while also holding the record for the most expensive transfer in Maltese football history at the time.
At the international level, Guillaumier has earned 47 caps and scored three goals for Malta. Since 2023, he has served as team captain, cementing his status as a key figure for his national side.
Panserraikos, often recognised by their iconic lion crest, expressed excitement over the acquisition, stating that Guillaumier will proudly wear the shirt with the lion on his chest as part of their ambitions for the upcoming season.
With his blend of technical ability, European experience, and leadership credentials, Guillaumier is expected to play a central role in Panserraikos’ plans.
