Malta FA confirms investigation into alleged match manipulation attempt

The Malta Football Association has confirmed that its Integrity Officer received a joint report from Gżira United FC and Valletta FC concerning an alleged attempt to induce a player to manipulate the FA Trophy Final.

In an official statement, the Malta FA said the matter was immediately referred to the Executive Police for further investigation. The allegation relates to a currently registered player who is not registered with either Gżira United FC or Valletta FC.

The association stated that the player is regarded as a person of interest within the ongoing investigation. As part of the process, the player has been placed under precautionary suspension from national team selection.

Additional integrity measures have been introduced by the Malta FA to safeguard the ongoing investigation and ensure procedural integrity while the case is being assessed.

The Malta FA confirmed that it will not provide further public comments at this stage, stating that the matter remains under active review. The association added that additional updates will be issued if and when necessary.
