Valletta St Paul's start MAFA season with strong win

MAFA First Division champions Valletta St Paul’s started their commitments in the best possible way when they achieved a comfortable 3-0 victory against promoted Mqabba Albions.

The Citizens made their intentions clear from the start and went ahead after only seven minutes through Vitor Henrique. Four minutes later prolific scorer Elton da Silva scored the second goal so that the first half ended 2-0.

In the second half, St Paul’s controlled well and found the time to score the third goal six minutes from the end of the match thanks to Ian Zammit.

Even Marsa St Michael’s started the 2024/25 season in the best way as they scored a goal in each half to beat promoted Ta’ Giorni Wanderers.

The Marsa outfit controlled the game well with Ta’ Giorni starting to operate a lot with counterattacks.

Marsa went ahead in the ninth minute through Nikola Neskovic so that eight minutes from the end of the match Yessous Camilleri sealed the victory in favour of his team.

In the second division league there was a spectacular game between Valletta Stars St Dominic and Birżebbuġa St Peter’s AFC as the final score was 6-6.

It was a match where the attackers were the main protagonists although it was not the day of the respective defences who committed a lot of mistakes.

The main protagonist for Birżebbuġa was Junior Ohalewe who scored three goals with David Ejiofor adding two more and Anthony Brown Sammut who added to their tally.

Valletta had Mohamed Abdukadir scoring a double with Damang Marena, Nemanja Stankovic, Alieu Bah and Klajdi Qose who continued to score more goals for Valletta Stars who missed a golden chance in the first half when Deisler Azzopardi missed a penalty.

Even Senglea Gunners started the season with a 4-3 win against Attard Edex Kings. It was not an easy victory for the team from Cottonera who by the end of the first half were 3-1 down. But their determination rewarded them so much that they got the first three points of the season.

It was Senglea Gunners who went ahead through Milan Grkovic so that on 12 minutes, Attard scored three goals with a double by Miguel Acevedo and another goal by Ifeanyi Wisdom.

In the second half, the Gunners came out very aggressive and even managed to score three goals through a double by George Frendo and another goal by Andrea Rufa.

From the MAFA Third Division league, Naxxar Victorians and debutants St Paul’s Bay NMFC cancelled each other out in a goalless draw.
