Malta international Joseph Mbong has completed a return to Hibernians after leaving Ħamrun Spartans, bringing an end to a successful five-and-a-half-year spell with the champions.
The 28-year-old winger began his senior career with Hibernians before joining Ħamrun in 2020, where he helped the club win multiple league titles and established himself as one of Malta’s leading attacking players.
Malta Sport had already stated that the Maltese player of the year for 2026 was close to the poalites back in mid-June when Mbong had confirmed his departure on Thursday afternoon through a long post on social media, bringing an end to his spell with Ħamrun after six seasons with the club. His message sparked an emotional reaction from Spartans supporters, many of whom regard him as one of the key figures of the club’s recent success.
Mbong, a regular for the Malta national team, now returns to Paola as Hibernians strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
