Vice President Dr Matthew Paris Interested In Future MFA Presidency

Dr Matthew Paris has publicly stated that he would be interested in contesting for the role of President of the Malta Football Association should a vacancy arise in the future.

Speaking during the television programme Il-Kampjonat in an interview conducted by Antvin Monseigneur, Dr Paris revealed that he would consider putting his name forward for the Association’s highest office, while also clarifying that he is ineligible to contest again for the position of Vice President during the next Malta FA Annual General Meeting scheduled for 2028.

Dr Paris has occupied a senior leadership role within Maltese football administration for almost a decade. He was elected Vice President of the Malta FA in December 2016 following the resignation of Dr Chris Bonett, who had stepped down after accepting a role with UEFA as Integrity Officer.

A lawyer by profession specialising in public procurement and legal consultancy, Dr Paris has, over the years, established himself as one of the most influential figures within Maltese football administration. Throughout his tenure within the Association, he has been involved in various strategic initiatives connected to football development, infrastructure, governance and futsal.

Among the major projects in recent years, Dr Paris played an active role in the Malta FA’s long-term infrastructure vision, including the Ta’ Qali Masterplan project aimed at modernising football facilities and improving sporting infrastructure for future generations.

His work has also extended beyond local football. In recent months, Dr Paris was appointed to the FIFA Futsal Committee for the 2025 to 2029 term, a prestigious international appointment viewed as recognition of both his administrative experience and Malta’s growing involvement within international football structures.

Over the years, Dr Paris has also maintained strong links with club football, previously serving within the administration of Floriana F.C. while also being among the founder members of Mdina Knights FC.

His recent comments are expected to further fuel discussion regarding the future leadership direction of the Malta FA in the coming years, particularly as Maltese football continues to undergo structural and administrative changes both on and off the pitch.
