Pieta’ Hotspurs missed the opportunity to claim the sole lead in the BOV Challenge League after suffering a surprising 0-4 loss to Mgarr United at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
Samuel Boakye struck twice, netting goals in the 33rd and 36th minutes. Just four minutes later, Matthew Mifsud extended the lead to 3-0, and Luka Mijic sealed the match with another goal in the 70th minute.
Marsa climbed to third place following a 3-1 victory over Lija Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Lydon Micallef opened the scoring for Marsa in the 5th minute, with an own goal in the 17th minute doubling their advantage. Robinho successfully converted a penalty in the 35th minute, but Lija narrowed the deficit through an Erjon Beu penalty ten minutes into the second half.
Tarxien Rainbows faced a 0-2 loss against Zebbug Rangers at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Chico Mendes gave Zebbug the lead just before half-time, and Duvan Mosquera added a second goal in the 68th minute.
Conversely, Sirens secured a 3-0 triumph over Swieqi United at the Centenary Stadium, thanks to an early goal by Mark Fenech in the 4th minute and a brace from Gilberto Carrara in the 19th and 78th minutes.
Valletta and Pieta’ currently top the table with 15 points each, trailed by Marsa with 14 points, Tarxien with 13, and Mgarr, Zurrieq, and Sirens all on 12 points. Swieqi holds 11 points, followed by Zebbug and Gudja on 7, Fgura with 6, Senglea and St. Andrews each with 5, Santa Lucia and Lija on 4, and Mtarfa 3 at the bottom.
