Marsa victory keeps them in hunt behind Valletta

Marsa 4-2 Zebbug Rangers
Marsa defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-2 on Sunday, keeping up with Valletta at the top of the table. Marsa now sit second, while Zebbug struggle to find form.

Marsa dominated early, with Lydon Micallef hitting the crossbar in the 6th minute. They took the lead in the 17th minute through Micallef’s strike. Zebbug equalised in the 23rd minute, but Marsa regained the lead in the 33rd minute. Micallef set up Kyle Gatt for a goal, and then made it 3-1 with a header just before halftime. In the second half, Marsa scored again after Micallef was fouled in the box, converting the penalty for 4-1. Zebbug pulled one back late, but Marsa held on for the win.

Pieta’ Hotspurs 0-1 Valletta
Valletta beat Pieta’ Hotspurs 1-0 last Saturday, with Ayrton Attard scoring the winner just before halftime. Despite the loss, Pieta’ created the best chances and will feel unlucky not to have scored. Valletta remain unbeaten in their last seven league matches, as they continue their push for promotion to the Premiership.

Pieta’ had the first real chance in the 3rd minute when Arthur Felippe forced a good save from Valletta’s goalkeeper. However, Valletta took the lead in the 44th minute after a collision between two Pieta’ defenders allowed Attard to score with a half-volley. Valletta controlled the game in the second half, but Pieta’ came close on a few occasions. Valletta held on for the win and three important points.

Gudja United 0-0 Swieqi United
Swieqi United drew 0-0 with Gudja United on Saturday, failing to win their third consecutive league match. Both teams are still in the race for a Top 8 finish.

The first half was balanced, with Swieqi’s Terence Vella coming close to scoring in the 39th minute. In the second half, both teams had chances, but neither could find the back of the net. Swieqi had a couple of good opportunities, but Gudja’s goalkeeper, Jean-Claude Debattista, made important saves. The match ended in a stalemate, with both teams sharing a point.

Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 Santa Lucia
Tarxien Rainbows won 2-1 against Santa Lucia in a derby, with both teams aiming for a Top 8 finish. Santa Lucia had a chance late in the match, but Tarxien held on for the win.

The first half was uneventful, but Tarxien took the lead in the 51st minute through Dacosta Boadu’s close-range strike. They added a second just two minutes later, with Boadu again finding the net. Santa Lucia got a penalty late on, and Jean Carlos converted to reduce the deficit. Tarxien survived some late pressure to claim the three points.

Sirens 4-4 Mgarr United
Sirens and Mgarr United played out a thrilling 4-4 draw, the most exciting match of the season. Mgarr led 3-1 at halftime, but Sirens fought back to make it 4-3 before Mgarr scored an equaliser late on.

Mgarr went ahead early through Luka Mijic, and Sirens responded with Mark Fenech’s header. Mgarr went 3-1 up before halftime, but Sirens mounted a comeback in the second half, with Thiago Nonato scoring twice and Fenech adding another. In the dying minutes, Mgarr earned a penalty, and substitute Christian Saint Ebisindor converted to make it 4-4.

Zurrieq 0-3 Fgura United
Fgura United beat Zurrieq 3-0 on Sunday, with the win lifting them away from the relegation zone. Zurrieq are now struggling, with only two points from their last five matches.

Fgura took the lead in the 27th minute after a goalmouth scramble, with an own goal from Steve Bezzina. They made it 2-0 five minutes later with a penalty from Donys Quintero. In the second half, Quintero completed his brace with a superb free kick, and Fgura cruised to a comfortable win.

Senglea Athletic 2-3 Lija Athletic
Lija Athletic came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Senglea Athletic in a dramatic match. This was Lija’s second straight victory of 2025, while Senglea remain at the bottom of the table.

Senglea took the lead with two quick goals in the first 10 minutes, but Lija responded with Jake Jovanoski pulling one back. Lija equalised through Rundell Winchester in the 26th minute, and in the 87th minute, a penalty from Erjon Beu completed the comeback.

St Andrews 0-1 Mtarfa
Mtarfa won 1-0 against St Andrews in a crucial bottom-of-the-table clash, earning their second win of the season and moving above Senglea.

St Andrews had some early chances, but Mtarfa took the lead in the 33rd minute with a penalty from Daren Falzon after a handball. St Andrews continued to pressure Mtarfa in the second half, especially after Mtarfa had a player sent off. However, Mtarfa held on for the win, leaving St Andrews struggling near the bottom.
