Mġarr United FC officially unveiled Andrea Agostinelli as their new head coach at a press conference held at Cavalleri Art Hotel, and also presented its renewed technical structure ahead of the upcoming Challenge League campaign. This news had already been announced exclusively by Malta Sport a week ago.

The event signalled a clear statement of intent from Mġarr United as the club aims to build an ambitious project capable of challenging strongly next season.
Alongside Agostinelli, the club also introduced new Team Manager Anthony Gafa to the media. At the same time, Kurt Baldacchino was confirmed as assistant manager and part of the technical staff that will support the experienced Italian tactician throughout the campaign.
Speaking to Malta Sport following his presentation, Agostinelli made it clear that his arrival at Mġarr United was motivated by the club’s ambition and long-term vision.
“If I still wanted to build a career, moving from the Premier League to the Challenge League would not make sense,” Agostinelli told Malta Sport. “What I had to do in football, I already did. I came here because I believe in the project and because I know this club wants to achieve something important.”
The Italian coach arrives in Malta with vast international experience after coaching spells abroad, including in Switzerland and Albania, where he successfully guided Flamurtari back to the top division.
Agostinelli also underlined that he expects Mġarr United to compete among the strongest teams in the league next season.
“We must be among the top three teams in this championship,” he stated. “If you want to stay anonymous, then you play a normal season. But if you want to fight to win, then you need ambition and responsibility.”
The new coach also stressed the importance of teamwork behind the scenes and praised the structure being built around him.

“The transfer market is not only up to me, it is also something we decide together as a club,” he explained. “I will rely on the people here because they know Maltese football better. What matters most to me is creating a team with the right mentality.”
Mġarr United’s newly presented technical setup, featuring Anthony Gafa as Team Manager and Kurt Baldacchino as assistant coach, is expected to play a key role in helping the club pursue its objectives for the new season. Last season, Mgarr United did not contend for promotion; they had retained their position in the Challenge league quite comfortably.
This year, their project revolves around the Italian coach Agostinelli, who, in his press conference, concluded by outlining the football philosophy he hopes to introduce at the club.
“Modern football requires an aggressive, quick and technical team,” he said. “Every match must be treated like the match of our lives, regardless of the opponent.”
The atmosphere during the presentation at Cavalleri reflected optimism and renewed enthusiasm around the club, with supporters now eager to see whether the new project can translate into success on the pitch.
