Rafael Leao, one of Milan’s best players, wants to extend his stay at the San Siro and has rejected offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid, according to Italian media reports.
The Portuguese footballer has become one of the leaders of the Rossoneri over the past years, which has made him an interesting target for several clubs, including Chelsea and Real Madrid. However, Leao has other plans.
As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, the player has started negotiations for a new contract with his current club. His current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024, making this summer the ideal time for another team to swoop in.
But Chelsea and Real have been prevented from doing so, and Milan has decided to reward Leao’s loyalty by increasing his salary to an impressive seven million euros per season.
The only problem in this whole story could be the 20 million euro debt to Sporting. Leao unilaterally terminated his contract with his former club and hoped that Milan would resolve the debt, but that has not happened yet.
The Rossoneri are still unwilling to pay the debt and want to resolve the issue between the player and Sporting through negotiations.
It is worth noting that Leao left Lisbon for Lille in 2018, from where he moved to Milan after just a year.
