Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been convicted of a drink-driving offence following an incident on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.
The 23-year-old centre-back was stopped by police during a routine traffic check last August. According to reports, breathalyser tests showed that his alcohol level was significantly above the legal limit.

The incident resulted in judicial proceedings, with the Spanish court issuing a criminal conviction against the defender. As part of the punishment, Asencio has been disqualified from driving and ordered to pay a financial penalty.
The conviction comes as Asencio continues to establish himself within Real Madrid’s first-team squad. The off-field incident could therefore create additional attention around the young defender as he looks to secure a regular role under Carlo Ancelotti.
Asencio has emerged as one of Real Madrid’s younger defensive options and has been regarded as a player with considerable potential. His current market value is estimated at €10 million by Transfermarkt.
The case adds an unwanted off-field issue to the defender’s developing career, with the driving ban and financial penalty now forming part of the consequences of the incident.
