Hansi Flick has confirmed he is set to extend his contract with FC Barcelona until 2028 after guiding the Catalan giants to another La Liga title.
The German coach revealed on Tuesday that an agreement is in place for a one-year extension of his current deal, which was originally due to expire in June 2027. The new arrangement is also expected to include the option for an additional year.
Barcelona sealed their 29th league title after defeating fierce rivals Real Madrid CF to move onto an unassailable 91 points with three matches still remaining.

Speaking to reporters, Flick admitted he was delighted to continue his journey at the club despite preferring shorter contractual commitments.

“Of course, I’m really happy about this,” Flick said. “They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more, so for me it is like that.”
“I think a lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca’s case it is good to limit it. I really appreciate it a lot.”
“We go to 2028, and then we will see if everything is right, and if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right. I think it is a good deal.”
The 61-year-old arrived in Barcelona in 2024 following a difficult spell with the German national team, where he was dismissed in September 2023. However, Flick has overseen a major resurgence at the Camp Nou, quickly restoring domestic dominance.
Under his leadership, Barcelona have now secured consecutive La Liga titles, while also lifting the Copa del Rey and back-to-back Supercopa de España trophies.
Despite their domestic success, European disappointment still lingers after Barcelona were eliminated from this season’s UEFA Champions League by Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Flick made it clear, however, that bringing the Champions League back to Barcelona remains the next major objective.
“For next season, it is also a big commitment for us to work harder, even harder than this season, to reach the best level with the team and to win titles,” he said.
“This is normal for Barca. I know everyone has this dream to win the Champions League. We will try again.”
The Barcelona manager also spoke emotionally about the support shown to him and his family during a difficult personal period following the death of his father on Sunday.
“In the last few days they showed me that I am here in the right place,” Flick added. “I really appreciate what they give me, all the people, to me and my team, and my family.”
Barcelona’s hierarchy now appears determined to continue building around Flick as the club looks to re establish themselves among Europe’s elite once again.
