Barcelona vs Osasuna postponed due to death of medical staff member

Saturday’s LaLiga fixture between Barcelona and Osasuna at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium was postponed following the sudden passing of FC Barcelona’s first-team doctor, Carles Miñarro Garcia. The club made the announcement just minutes before kick-off.

Both teams had already named their starting line-ups, and the players had begun their warm-ups when Barcelona communicated the decision via the stadium speakers.

LaLiga has confirmed that a new date for the match will be determined in the coming days by its competition committee.

“FC Barcelona is deeply saddened to announce the passing of first-team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia this evening,” the club said in an official statement. “For this reason, the match between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna has been postponed to a later date. The FC Barcelona Board of Directors and all staff extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Barcelona currently sit atop the LaLiga standings with 57 points, one ahead of Atletico Madrid, with Real Madrid in third on 54 points. The rescheduled fixture is expected to be crucial in the title race.
