Virgil van Dijk saw red as the Netherlands secured a point in Hungary during the Nations League match.
The home team initially took the lead thanks to Roland Sallai’s well-executed volley in the first half.
However, the situation changed when Liverpool defender Van Dijk received two yellow cards within a span of three minutes, resulting in his dismissal.
His first caution was for dissent, while the second was for a foul on Kevin Csoboth along the wing.
This red card marked Van Dijk’s first for the Netherlands and occurred during his 77th appearance, near the end of the game.
Nevertheless, shortly after his departure, the ten-man team managed to equalize when Denzel Dumfries headed in Cody Gakpo’s free-kick.
Prior to being sent off, Van Dijk successfully completed 145 out of his 152 passes. This figure was not far from Hungary’s entire team total of 173 completed passes.
