Germany thrashes Bosnia with a 7-0 victory to secure the lead in their Nations League group.
Germany delivered a dominant 7-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, with Florian Wirtz and Tim Kleindienst each netting twice, securing the top position in their Nations League group A3 with a match still to play. Already qualified for next year’s quarter-finals of the competition, Germany leads with 13 points, ahead of the Netherlands, who are on eight. The team aims to reassert their international prowess as they look towards the 2026 World Cup. “We emerged from the game without injuries, and our counter-pressing was exceptionally effective,” remarked Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann following the team’s most significant triumph since he took charge last year. “Scoring seven goals against a defensively entrenched opponent is remarkable.
Our strategy was to regain possession swiftly, advance the ball quickly, and execute transitions effectively, aspects we lacked at the Euros in June. We accomplished that well,” Nagelsmann concluded.
Germany, journeying to Budapest to face Hungary on Tuesday for their final group match, took an early lead with Jamal Musiala’s skillful header just 90 seconds into the game. The Bayern Munich midfielder, on a hot streak, has now scored in three consecutive matches for both club and country. The hosts appeared to be in top form and extended their advantage when striker Kleindienst netted his first Germany goal in the 23rd minute, capitalising on Robert Andrich’s shot. Kai Havertz came close twice in an exhilarating first half before finding the back of the net in the 37th minute, following a swift exchange with Wirtz. Wirtz then added Germany’s fourth goal five minutes into the second half with a well-placed free kick that surprised Bosnia’s goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj. With Bosnia’s defence in disarray and unable to counter the hosts’ rapid attacks, Germany showed no signs of relenting and continued their relentless offensive push.
Wirtz found the back of the net at the far post in the 57th minute, marking his second goal of the night. Substitute Leroy Sane then increased Germany’s tally to six goals just nine minutes after. The Bosnian team’s woes were compounded in the 79th minute when Kleindienst scored, sealing a 7-0 victory.
