In Argentina, the death has been announced of Boca Juniors coach Miguel Ángel Russo, who was 69 years old.
Over the past eight years, he had been battling prostate cancer, yet he remained active in his role, even leading the team during the Club World Cup edition held this past summer.
He enjoyed a long playing career with Estudiantes, where he made over 400 appearances, and also had a brief spell between 1983 and 1985 with the Argentine national team, earning 17 caps and scoring one goal.
As a coach, Russo had three spells with Boca Juniors — in 2007, and again between 2020 and 2021, in addition to his most recent tenure. His last match in charge of the team was on September 21, after which his health began to deteriorate.
Russo also had coaching experience abroad, including in Mexico, Spain with Salamanca, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, and Saudi Arabia.
