As reported by this website over than a month ago Gozitan duo Joseph Portelli and Marcel Bonnici have finalised a deal with Italian football Club Ferrara Calcio Ars et Labor. Between 2017 and 2019 they featured in the Serie A under the name of SPAL.
Ferrara Calcio Ars et Labor earlier on Thursday issued a statement on their social media platforms to welcome JP Football Holding as sthe new club owners and promised that the new ownership will do everything in their power to take the team where it deserves.
The buy out from the previous owners has not yet been made public. Just before the start of the 2025/26 season SPAL was not admitted to the Serie C as a request to deposit the sum of 3million euros for arrears was not deposited on time.
“We are pleased to announce that on July 9, 2026, Joseph Portelli, through JP Football Holding, will be the new owner of Ars et Labor Ferrara,” the statement said.
“The club’s acquisition is with immediate effect after an agreement with previous owners Juan Martin Molinari and Andres Adolfo Marengo.
“To the club fans, we would like to send a clear message: there is full commitment in restoring Ars et Labor Ferrara to the status its history and tradition deserve.
“Our objective is to guarantee the club will operate solidly and with a stable financial situation that will help to build the foundations for a gradual growth of the club and achieve constant success”
Ferrara Ars et Labor will play in the Eccellenza League for the 2025/26 season. Ferrara, formerly known as SPAL, was chaired by American lawyer and businessman Joe Tacopina, with Francesco Baldini serving as manager until the club’s liquidation in 2025. Following the liquidation, the team’s legacy is now being carried forward by Ars et Labor Ferrara.
