Manchester City bring Rulli back to Etihad on two-year deal

Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year contract.

The 34-year-old returns to the Etihad Stadium a decade after his first spell with the club, having originally joined City in 2016 before leaving without making a senior appearance.

Rulli is expected to provide experienced competition and cover for first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma following James Trafford’s departure for Leeds United.

The Argentina international arrives with considerable experience across European football, having represented Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, Ajax and Marseille.

One of the defining moments of his career came with Villarreal in the 2021 Europa League final against Manchester United. Rulli scored his penalty before saving David de Gea’s effort as the Spanish side won a dramatic shootout.

At international level, Rulli was part of Argentina’s squad that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the Copa América in 2024.

His new City contract runs until the summer of 2028, giving the club an experienced option between the posts as they prepare for the new Premier League campaign.
