Polish football star Robert Lewandowski has announced he will no longer play for the national team as long as Michal Probierz remains the head coach.
The 36-year-old striker, who has scored 85 goals in 158 matches for Poland, made the announcement on social media. He was recently replaced as captain by Piotr Zielinski.
“Given the situation and that I no longer trust the coach, I’ve decided to step away from the team while he’s in charge,” Lewandowski wrote on X.
However, he didn’t rule out a return in the future. “I hope I’ll get another chance to play again for our amazing fans,” he added.
Probierz has been Poland’s coach since 2023. He took the team to EURO 2024, but they didn’t win a single match and were knocked out in the group stage.
