Inter's Bonny turns his back on France to represent Ivory Coast

Inter Milan forward Ange-Yoan Bonny has switched international allegiance and will now be eligible to represent Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup.

The 22-year-old, who was born in France and previously represented the French under-21 side, had his request to change nationality approved by FIFA on Friday. Bonny is of Ivorian heritage and is expected to be named in their 26-man World Cup squad, which is due to be announced on Friday.

Bonny has had a solid season at Inter, chipping in with five league goals, largely from the bench, as the club won the Serie A title. He could make his debut for the Ivory Coast before the tournament gets underway, with the Ivorians set to face France in a friendly in Lens on 4th June, which promises to be quite an occasion given his background.
