The former opponents of Sliema Wanderers FC Noah from Armenia showed they were no pushovers when they easily won their UEFA Conference League qualifying match against Greek giants AEK Athens by three goals to one.
Much had been said about Sliema’s 7-0 hammering against the Armenian side but now football observers are singing a different tune. This is not some third rate side from Gibralter or an average team from Kosovo as were Hamrun Spartan’s opponents. Sliema Wanderers should hold their head up high by managing a goalless draw at home against Noah who are now a good bet to make it to the Group Stages.
AEK Athens suffered a shock defeat by FC Noah in Yerevan, Armenia, on Tuesday in the third qualifying ground of Europa Conference League.
Although AEK led with Levi Garcia in the 22nd minute, Noah equalised 10 minutes later. In the second half, AEK conceded a goal directly from a goal kick by Noah’s goalkeeper Ognjen Cancarevic. In the 8th minute of extra time Noah scored again with Goncalo Gregorio.
The second leg takes place next Thursday in Athens.
