Egypt will host Russia in a friendly match at the Cairo International Stadium today as the Pharaohs continue their preparations for next month’s FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The delayed arrival of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has cast doubt over his involvement in the friendly, which will be Hossam Hassan’s side’s penultimate warm-up match before the tournament, with another friendly against Brazil scheduled for June 6 in the United States.
Egypt have been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand, and will begin their campaign against Belgium on June 15.
Russia and its clubs have been suspended from all FIFA and UEFA competitions since 2022, but they are still permitted to play friendly matches because they are not considered official tournaments.
