Belgium’s Football Association has dismissed national team coach Domenico Tedesco following a series of underwhelming performances.
Tedesco, appointed in February 2023, initially led the team on a 14-match unbeaten streak. However, the team’s form declined, culminating in a last-16 exit at the European Championship in July 2024 after a 1-0 defeat to France. Subsequent disappointing results in the Nations League, including a 2-2 draw against Italy in October 2024 and a 1-0 loss to Israel in November 2024, further exacerbated the situation.
Compounding the on-field struggles, Tedesco’s tenure was marred by a fallout with key goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The Real Madrid player announced in August 2024 that he would no longer play for Belgium under Tedesco’s management, citing a lack of confidence in the coach.
Belgian media have begun speculating on potential successors, with names such as Thierry Henry, Mark van Bommel, Erik ten Hag, and Rudi Garcia being mentioned. The Football Association is expected to make an official announcement regarding Tedesco’s dismissal and the appointment of a new head coach soon.
