The 77-year-old billionaire said the accusations relate to decades-old events from his time in the adult entertainment industry and have nothing to do with football or West Ham United. He resigned immediately, saying he did not want personal matters to become a distraction during a difficult period for the club following relegation from the Premier League.

West Ham confirmed interim CEO Karim Virani will oversee daily operations while the club assesses its next steps. Sullivan remains a major shareholder despite stepping down from official duties.

The allegations are expected to feature in a joint BBC Panorama and Times investigation due to be released on Monday.
