Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been released after being arrested on suspicion of raping, assaulting, and threatening to kill his girlfriend. He paid the bail in order to defend himself from freedom in the further course of the investigation.
Greenwood was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of rape and assault after police saw a woman who reported allegations of physical violence and sexual threats on social media.
He was also charged on Tuesday with sexual assault and death threats.
He asked her to sleep with him, and after she refused sex, Greenwood went crazy, and then beat her up.
She posted a video on her social networks where blood is leaking from her mouth, while a large number of bruises can be seen on her body.
She also published a series of audio recordings of the debate.
The 20-year-old, who is considered one of the most talented young football players in England, is still under investigation.
Manchester United suspended him until the end of the investigation and he will not be able to play or train in the following period.
Sponsors also distanced themselves from Greenwood, and the club issued a statement.
“Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind. “As previously announced, Mason Greenwood will not train or play for the club until further notice.”
