Bale already ready for a new role?

Wales coach Rob Page said today that Gareth Bale, who has announced his retirement, wants to retain some role in the national football team.

“When you have someone the size of Gareth Bale, with everything he’s done for Wales and the impact he can have even if he’s just around the players in the dressing room, that’s something I have to take advantage of,” Page said.

“He is interested. For what role? We will talk in a few weeks”, added the Wales coach.

The five-time winner of the Champions League with Real Madrid announced yesterday that he is ending his playing career at the age of 33. He played 111 games for the national team and scored 34 goals, the last one at the World Cup in Qatar against the USA selection.

Before that, the Welsh reached the semi-finals of the 2016 European Championship, their first major competition in 58 years.

“What he has done is phenomenal, not only from a football point of view but for the country because he has put Wales back on the world football map,” Page said.

In addition to Real, Bale has also played for Southampton, Tottenham, and Los Angeles in his career.
