Floriana and Valletta set for Final Four derby clash

Floriana F.C. and Valletta F.C. will renew their rivalry on Saturday when they meet in the opening Final Four semi final at the National Stadium.

The fixture brings together two of the most successful clubs in Maltese football, with a place in the final at stake.

Floriana head into the derby after winning the Closing Round and will aim to avoid a repeat of last season’s disappointment, when they were eliminated by Ħamrun Spartans in a penalty shoot out despite strong performances during the league phase.

The Greens have approached preparations with confidence following a positive week of training, while remaining aware of the significance and pressure that accompanies a derby of this scale.

Captain Dunstan Vella is expected to play a key role for Floriana as the club looks to build on what has already been considered a strong campaign. Within the squad, there is belief that the match will be closely contested and likely decided by fine margins.

Valletta secured their place in the Final Four through consistent performances across the season. The Citizens have relied heavily on resilience and squad unity during the campaign, qualities that helped them remain competitive throughout difficult moments.

Coach Thane Micallef views qualification for this stage as a reward for the work carried out by the players during the season, while the squad remains determined to challenge for the title.

Experienced players such as Brandon Paiber and Jake Azzopardi continue to provide leadership within the group, particularly after remaining with the club through less successful periods in recent years.

Valletta are also expected to focus on defensive discipline, with the squad recognising the importance of limiting mistakes in a match where small details could prove decisive.

The semi final between Floriana and Valletta kicks off at 14.45 on Saturday at the National Stadium.
