FIFA and Global Citizen launch $100 million education fund

FIFA and international advocacy group Global Citizen have officially launched the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, aiming to raise USD $100 million to support access to education and football for children worldwide.

Announced at the Global Citizen NOW summit in New York, the initiative is part of a four-year partnership between the two organisations. The fund will support education-focused projects and grassroots football programmes in over 200 countries, with 50% of the funds going directly to FIFA’s Football for Schools programme, run in collaboration with UNESCO.

To support the fund:

  • $1 from every ticket sold for matches at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States will be donated.
  • Proceeds from live music and entertainment events will contribute, with artists like The Weeknd already pledging support.
  • Payment company Shift4 will enable over 200,000 businesses in North America — including restaurants, hotels, and stadiums — to accept donations at the point of sale.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said:
“Football unites the world. Over the coming years, we’ll harness that unity to improve education for millions of children globally.”

Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans added:
“This is a bold step toward a world where every child has access to education and opportunity, no matter where they are born.”

The fund officially launches ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which kicks off on 14 June in Miami. More announcements regarding both this tournament and the FIFA World Cup 2026 are expected in the coming months.
