Brentford produced a dominant first-half display to claim a vital 3-1 win over Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium, moving them clear of the Premier League relegation zone and deepening United’s away-day woes.
The Bees entered the match with just four points from their opening five fixtures but wasted no time in asserting themselves. A pinpoint long ball from Jordan Henderson in the eighth minute found Igor Thiago, who clinically fired past Altay Bayındır to open the scoring.
Thiago doubled the advantage 12 minutes later, reacting quickly to tap in after Kevin Schade’s initial shot was parried by the United goalkeeper. The Brazilian forward’s brace left Manchester United with an uphill task after just 20 minutes.
Ruben Amorim’s side responded through Benjamin Šeško, who netted his first goal for the club, converting from close range after seeing two earlier efforts blocked. Despite halving the deficit before half-time, United failed to build on the momentum.
Brentford came out stronger in the second half and were unlucky not to extend their lead, with Bayındır saving well from Dango Ouattara. United had a golden opportunity to equalise in the 70th minute when they were awarded a penalty following a foul on Bryan Mbeumo. However, captain Bruno Fernandes saw his spot-kick saved by Caoimhín Kelleher, his second penalty miss in the league this season.
The home side sealed the result in stoppage time, with Mathias Jensen capping a composed team move by curling a superb finish beyond Bayındır to make it 3-1.
Brentford have now lost just once in their last seven home league matches (W4, D2), while United’s travel problems persist, they remain winless in eight consecutive away games in the Premier League (D2, L6).
